How it works
- Open your PDF in ScanKit’s editor. The Form fields tool is already picked.
- Press Find fields, or pick a field type and click or drag on the page. Click a field to set its name, tooltip, choices and whether it is required.
- Press Save PDF. The fields are saved as standard PDF form fields, ready to be filled in.

What does Find fields do?
It looks at each page as it is drawn and adds a field for every empty box or table cell, every line with room above it, and every small square (as a checkbox). Each field is named after the text next to it, like “Full name”, and a label with “date” or “signature” in it gets a date or signature field. It works best on PDFs with clear lines and boxes. It can miss a field or add one you do not want, so check the page before you save.
Which kinds of fields can I add?
Single and multi-line text, checkboxes, radio buttons (only one in a group can be picked), dropdowns, list boxes, dates, numbers and signature fields. Text fields can have a maximum length and one box per character, for things like account numbers.
Do date and number fields check what is typed?
They carry the standard form scripts that format and check dates and numbers. PDF readers that run form scripts, like Adobe Acrobat Reader and Firefox, use them; readers that do not still let people type, without the check.
Can people sign the signature field?
A signature field is an empty place for a digital signature, which readers like Adobe Acrobat Reader can sign. To put a drawn or typed signature on your own document instead, use the Sign tool.
Is the form accessible?
Every field gets a tooltip, which screen readers read out. Find fields fills it in from the field’s label, and you can change it. Fields are saved in reading order and Tab moves through them row by row.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Your PDF is opened and saved by your browser, so nothing is sent anywhere and there is nothing to delete afterwards.
