Compress a PDF
Make a PDF smaller by shrinking the photos and scans inside it, while text and drawings stay sharp. You see the size before and after, and if a file cannot be made smaller you are told so.
How it works
- Open the Compress tool and choose a PDF.
- Pick Light, Balanced or Strong.
- Press Compress PDF. The smaller file downloads, with the old and new size shown.
Questions
How much smaller will it get?
It depends on what is inside. PDFs made of photos or scans often shrink a lot; a PDF that is only text is already compact, and the tool says so instead of giving you the same file back.
Will the text get blurry?
No. Only the photos inside are made lighter. Text, lines and drawings are left exactly as they are.
Which pictures does it shrink?
JPEG photos and scans, the most common kind. Some pictures (for example CMYK print images or lossless scans) are left as they are.
Are my files uploaded?
Your files are opened by your browser and never uploaded, so there is nothing to delete afterwards.
