Update log
A free PDF editor, and you can now change the PDF's own text
ScanKit is no longer only about scans. Open the app and it now asks what you want to do, and one of the answers is a full PDF editor. It is free: no download count, no watermark, no account. Like everything else in ScanKit, it runs in your browser and your file is never uploaded.
New
"What do you want to do?"
The app now opens on a simple choice: Edit a PDF, Scan photos (turn phone photos of documents into clean scans) or Make it look printed (the printed-and-scanned and phone-photo looks). The tabs at the top are now Edit, Scan and Print, and the logo takes you back to the choice.
A free PDF editor
Open a PDF and add text, draw, highlight, white out part of a page, add boxes, circles, lines and arrows, or put in a picture. Your marks can be moved, resized, recoloured and undone. Save PDF writes them onto your original pages, so the document's own text stays real, selectable text and the file stays small. No page limit and no daily count.
Change the PDF's own text
Pick Edit text and every line of the document's text gets a faint outline. Click a line, retype it, press Enter. When you save, the old words are taken out of the page, not just hidden under a white box, and nothing else on the page moves: backgrounds, tables and the lines around it stay exactly as they were. The new text is set in the closest standard font (sans, serif or mono, bold or italic), in the colour and size of the original.
Fill in PDF forms
If a PDF has form fields, you can type into them, tick the boxes and pick from the lists right on the page. The values are saved into the form itself, so they stay editable in other PDF readers.
Sign your own documents
The Ink Studio you know from the Print side now works in the editor too: draw or type your signature or handwriting, then place it on the page and move it where it belongs.
Reorder and remove pages
The page list on the left shows every page. Drag a page to move it, use the arrows, or remove the pages you do not need before you save.
Good to know
- Edit text works one line at a time. A longer line runs further to the right; paragraphs do not reflow.
- A line that mixes styles, like a bold label followed by normal text, comes back in the style most of its letters use. You can switch bold and italic on or off.
- Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages, so there is no text in them to change. You can still write on them, white out, sign and reorder pages.
- In the rare case a line's original letters cannot be taken out of the file, ScanKit covers that line instead and tells you so when you save.
